ELLE’s beauty and fashion assistant Maybe Corpaci played with fashion and beauty in a mix of colour and prints perfectly on-trend for the summer season in a recent shoot at our studios in Woodstock. “Fearless shades and flamboyant fashion, the season’s new mood comes to life in colour” says Maybe.
Thanks to ELLE style reporter Niquita Bento we get to see what went on behind the scenes during this photographic shoot in our Drive-In Studio.

What was the inspiration for the shoot?

In October’s ELLE, The New Pretty shoot explores the graceful power of womanhood with tactile textures, dainty delicates and skin-skimming linen. Who is your model?
We shot with Mariska Engelbrecht from Fanjam. She is one of their freshest faces. This was also her very first editorial, so it was really exciting to take a risk and give her that breakthrough.
What was the inspiration for the shoot?

Our Church Studio is still available as a venue for wedding ceremonies but this styled bridal shoot took place in our Drive-In photographic studio. Photographer Lindie Meyer took advantage of the seasonal nature of photography in Cape Town and how in winter you get the chance to sink your teeth into creative projects like this one.
Explaining the rationale behind the shoot Lindie said, “I got the idea for this shoot while browsing Pinterest and saw a beautiful editorial of a model wearing an over the top black wedding dress. I had the idea do a shoot with two very contrasting ‘personalities’ – The Dark Bride & The Blush Bride. Our dark bride is really edgy, and really doesn’t care about what is traditionally regarded as beautiful, she lives live to the beat of her own drum but doing it with such ease. Inspiration for shoot?
I was inspired by the rise of minimalism, androgyny, paired back design and classic staples to tie in to our iconic August issue. The idea of not forcefully dressing like a woman to feel like a woman is the here and now!
